Best Green Places: Bear Creek Regional Park
Bear Creek Regional Park is a favorite destination for residents of Colorado Springs who want to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life. With a well established trail system that extended throughout the Park, it is a favorite destination for hiking, biking and horseback riding enthusiasts. The Park also boasts a full array of tennis courts, soccer fields, basketball courts and other sports fields and court, so it is a favorite of those who are seeking outdoor recreational opportunities.
The Park is broken down into four main sections. The Nature Center area has media presentations and interpretive programs that address the local fauna and wildlife that exists around the Center. The Bear Creek Terrace has a picnic area along with 5 pavilions, 3 play areas, a volleyball court, horseshoe pits and an archery range. Bear Creek East runs along the Bear Creek, and has picnic areas and a playground as well. The Bear Creek Dog Park area is a 24-acre recreational area for your canine friends. It features a ¾ mile loop trail, stabilized pools for dogs to play in, a holding pen and a penned small dog area.
Wildlife abounds in the Park, including coyote, mule deer and elk that range through the Park. The Park is known to be a birdwatcher’s paradise, as at least 25 species of birds are known to make the Park their home or to visit the Park- including large species who visit the Park – such as wild turkeys, bald eagles, raptors and hawks of every kind.
